Greetings from eslactivities.com!

For this edition of the newsletter, I wanted to bring you more than just some activity ideas, or a way to eslactivities.com more effectively, though I know those are all important and helpful for teachers. Today I want to tell you about an idea that I hope will change the way you teach.

The 6 Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners

The 6 Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners is brought to you by the TESOL International Association, the premiere organization for English teachers around the world. I love this book because it give practical explanations and each of the 6 principles in the book is essential to being an effective teacher of English to speakers of other languages. The 6 Principles will help you make informed decisions to improve your English language instruction and assessment. Inside the book you'll find essential information on language development and second language acquisition and detailed explanations of each of The 6 Principles. Also included in the book are practical applications of The 6 Principles for the K-12 classroom, vignettes and examples from different contexts, a 6 Principles self-assessment, and ideas for building strong communities of practice.

I wrote a blog post that looks at how you can incorporate technology into each of the 6 Principles as well. Check it out.

The TESOL International Association

If you are serious about wanting to be a better teacher, I strongly suggest you check out the TESOL International Assocation. I have been a member for 20 years now and I have gained so much more than I ever thought possible. The members of the Asssociation include the top experts in the field of TESOL and they share their expertise with Association members through the Interest Section email lists, virtual and face-to-face events (before and after the pandemic, of course), and many other ways, including publishing in TESOL publications and newsletters. I am always emailing one of the email lists, asking questions and sharing my knowledge as well. It is great resource for new teachers who need a community of practice, and for experienced teachers who need an infusion of ideas into their teaching practice. Membership is not too expensive, and totally worth the benefits of membership.
